Biography

Janet was one of four sisters who inherited their father's interest in the Kirkland of Dreghorn, North Ayrshire, Scotland. The four were named, along with their father, in sasines or deeds dated June 23 and June 30, 1643.^[1]

Janet married sometime between then and September 1, 1658. On the latter date, "Janet Lin, daughter of John Lin, portioner of Kirkland Dreghorn, and spouse of John Mure in Southhook" was named in a sasine or deed entered in the Ayr Register of Deeds at volume 9, folio 367.^[2] The farm of Southhook is located two miles northeast of Dreghorn.^[3]

It is likely that Janet's family was a branch of the Lynns of that Ilk, who had owned the estate of Bourtreehill from about 1506 to about 1606 ~ see John Lynn.
