Biography

William Asberry Lynn, son of Andrew W. Lynn and Cynthia (Dubberly) Lynn, appears in the 1860 census with his widowed mother and older siblings ...

Cynthia is reported to have died about this time, and Asberry and James went to live with their paternal grandfather. In 1870, they appear in the census as follows ...

1870 Census, Reidsville P.O., Tattnall Co., GA, p. 28/226, 16 Jun

Hetty Lynn, age 19, b. in GA, Keeping House

Jackson Bradley, age 21, b. in GA, Farm Laborer[2]

Known affectionately as "Uncle Berry", Asberry married Sarah Ann Boyette and made a home in or near Cobbtown, Tattnall County. At his death on 11 June 1932, he was laid to rest in Cobbtown's Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. A copy of his death certificate accompanies his Findagrave memorial.[3]

The certificate names his parents as Andrew W. Lynn and Cynthia Dubberly, both born in Tattnall County.[4] It should be noted that there is some discrepancy between Asberry's date of birth on the certificate and his date of birth on his gravestone. The certificate says 22 November 1860 while the gravestone says 2 October 1859. At the same time, the certificate also says that Asberry died on 11 June 1932 at the age of 73 years, 7 months, and 11 days, which calculates to a birthdate of 31 October 1858 - differing from both the certificate and the gravestone.

All things considered, there can be no doubt that Andrew and Cynthia (Dubberly) Lynn were the parents of both William Asberry Lynn and his older brother, James.
