He was born 24 Feb 1788 in Rowan County, NC . He moved to Muhlenberg County, KY in 1809
married Sarah DePoyster 27 Nov 1814 in Butler County, KY and set out to see his parents in NC where he stated until the fall of 1815 upon moving to Barren County, KY and shortly after to Sangamon County, Illinois arriving fall of 1825 at the north end of the area referred to as Buffalo Hart Grove. The authors report that Mrs. Lynn stated that it took three (3) days to decide where to stay due to the wildness of the area. She further stated that her husband would have returned to Kentucky but she wouldn't hear of returning. the Indians were numerous but no harm befell the family.
A notice in the Illinois Daily Journal is transcribed below: 25 Cents Reward RAN AWAY from the subscriber, on the 8th inst., Ezra w. Curtes, age about 18 years, heavy set, bound to the farming business till 21 years of age. This will inform the public against harboring ortrusing said boy for any amount whatsoever; as I will not pay any debts of his contracting. April 13, 1853 - w2w-pd $1 JAMES LYNN. [1][2]
at the start of the War of 1812 he enlisted at Russellville, KY serving for eighteen (18) months. He was shot in Canada suffering a severe injury. He returned to Muhlenberg County, KY
James Lynn died 11 Mar 1860. The estate notice in the Illinois Journal is transcribed below: ESTATE OF JAMES LYNN, DECEASED.--Notice is hereby given that the undersigned Executors of the Estate of James Lynn, deceased will attend before the county court of Sangamon County, to be holden at the Court House in springfield, on the third Monday in the month of June next, and on the third day of said Term, when and where all persons having claims against said estate are notified to present them for adjustment.
All person indebted to said estate are requested to make payment to the undersigned R.P. LYNN JOHN W. LYNN Executors - Springfield, April 25, A. D. 1869 apr26-wjw
