Gilbert was born in 1719. He was the son of Thomas Lyon and Abigail Ogden. He passed away about 1816.
He married Jane Kniffen, daughter of Nathan. Their children are:

Gilbert Lyon's Will, dated 28 Aug 1809, probated 5 Jun 1816 "Stamford Probate Records: 11/210 (Will) 11/213(Inventory) lists 8 acres of land and "my homestead where I new Dwell" along the "main stage road" on the south (Route 1/Post Road today) and the "Byrum River" on the north. Executors were Joshua Lyon and Samuel Lyon. Gilbert was the sixth and youngest son of Thomas Lyon and Abigail Ogden. He married Jane Kniffen, the family name often spelled Sniffen.
"During the Revolution his sympathies were with the loyalists but his sons did not share his feelings in this regard. He lived to 97 years and died at last while sitting in his chair as though falling asleep." (excerpt from A Lyon Memorial, p. 61)
