John was born 22 February 1813, in Needham, Massachusetts. He was the son of Peter Lyon and Charlotte Seavearns. He passed away in 1864.[1]
On 26 May 1836, John married Sally Hagar, daughter of Isaac Hagar and Eunice Steadman, in Newton, Massachusetts.[2]
In 1860, the family is living in Newton, Massachusetts. John was employed by the paper manufacture industry. [3]

The family soon relocated to Ohio. John Welles Lyon died at age 51 on 22 September 1864, and is buried in Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio.[4]
