OBITUARY
MRS. FERRIS, SENR.
Mrs. Margaret Ferris, relict of the old-time Parramatta North business man (the late Mr. Jas. Ferris, father of the late Col. W. J. Ferris, V.D., and the late Messrs. Isaac and Alfred Ferris), passed away on Sunday, August 18, at Ross-street, Parramatta, at the ripe age of 76 years. She had been in failing health for the last two years, and consequently the end was not unexpected. Mrs Ferris was one of the best known of the old familiar faces of Parramatta North. She was the late Mr. Jas. Ferris's second wife, and was married in Parramatta. She was a native of Muswellbrook, and daughter of Mr. Wm. Lyons (of Atterdon and Subiaco). There were no children of the marriage; but she was a good mother to her husband's orphans. "Old Mrs. Ferris," as she was familiarly known in her home district, was a popular townswoman always, with a glad smile and kind word for everybody. In her younger days she was a central and striking figure in Parramatta's social circles; and even in relatively recent years she was one of the most useful and constant workers in some lines of charitable endeavour in the district. The deceased lady's funeral took place on the Monday afternoon at the Catholic Cemetery, Parramatta North. The mourners included Messrs. P. W. Toohey, G. A. Ferris, W. J. Ferris, J. M. T. Ferris, Norbert Ferris, J. M. Kelly, senr W. A. Kelly, J. Ashby Kelly, junr., C. Kelleher, Isaac Ferris, H. Ferris (members of the family), and Messrs. E. J. Hollingdale, B. Hollingdale, R. Sherlock, John Kelly, S. M. Dennis, and many others. The boys from Westmead Home, under Brother Francis, formed a procession. A Requiem Mass for the repose of the soul of the deceased lady was celebrant at St. Patrick's Church, the Rev. Father John Sheri-dan being celebrant. — R.I.P. [5]
