Biography

Samuel was born in 1834. He first married Adelia Hobart probably just before the birth of their son Stewart 1860, and a year later, a daughter Rosetta Adelia c.1861. Samuel and his children are named in the will of Samuel's mother Rosetta Parsons Lyons, as heirs, in 1862. In 1864, Samuel enlists in the Civil War in Mamatking, NY, and musters out a year later in South Carolina in 1865. He served in the 56th Regiment, NY Vols also known as the infamous Tenth Legion under Col. Charles Van Wyck. In 1869, he joins his sister Catherine Miles, and moves to NYC where she is known to reside. He marries Eliza Leland in 1873, and has a daughter Eliza in 1875. In 1879, he marries a 3rd time, to Elizabeth O'Brien. In 1881, his son Stewart marries in NYC and Samuel is listed as father on marriage license. In 1882, Samuel Lyons, dies of heart disease at his residence on W 16th St in Chelsea, Manhattan, NY, and the age of 48.
