Biography

Dina was born about 1855. She was the daughter of Philippe Léger and Justine Boudreau. Dina and Aimé were married in 1880. [1][2] She passed away in 1925. [3][4]

« Dina Léger-Cormier est née à Shédiac (N.-B.) en juin 1859, fille de Philippe Léger et Justine Gautreau de Barachois (N.-B.). Elle a épousée en 1880 Aimé Cormier, commerçant de Shédiac. Suite au décès de son mari le 24 novembre 1891, elle devient responsable du magasin général. À son décès le 10 mars 1925, c’est sa fille Edna (1883-1971) qui prend la relève du commerce. (...) Famille acadienne à l’aise de l’époque, on remarque trois fils, les docteurs Antoine et Olivier et l’abbé Léonide Cormier. Une fille Évangéline, épousa Charles Garon de Rimouski dont la mère était Philomène Belliveau (1854-1940), peintre et dessinatrice acadienne de renommé. » [5] N.B. Philomène Belliveau était la TANTE de Charles, non la mère. [6]


Obituary

The Community was deeply shocked this morning to hear of the death of one of its leading citizens in the person of Mrs. A. J. Cormier, which occurred today after a short illness. The cause of death is given as heart failure. The late Mrs. Cormier was 66 years of age and was one of the most highly respected citizens of this town. For thirty years, following the death of her husband, she had conducted a store here and had by her unfailing energy built up a splendid business. She was held in high esteem throughout the district and the province by reason of her fine business judgement and ability... [7]
