Biography

Jean was born in 1883. [1] He was the son of Marcellin Léger and Olive Léger. His godfather was Arthur Léger and godmother Exelda Léger.

In the 1891 census Jean (age 8) was the son of Marcelin Legere in Dorchester, Westmorland, New Brunswick, Canada.[2]

In the 1901 Census, at age 17, Jean was listed in the family home.[3]

He married Léona Johnson in 1914. [4]

He was a postal inspector.

In the 1921 census, Jean (age 37), a clerk, was the married head of household at 96 115 Queen St, St John and Albert, 115 Queen St, New Brunswick, Canada.[5] His income at the post office was 1700$ a year.

In the 1931 census, the family was living at 14 Carlysle, in Saint-John. [6]

He passed away in 1950 at the age of 66. [7] His nephew Dr Euclide Léger, Arthur’s son, signed the death certificate. [8]

Jean E. Léger est né à Memramcook (Nouveau-Brunswick), le 2 octobre 1883, fils de Marcellin et d'Olive Léger. Il fréquenta le Collège Saint-Joseph, puis il entra sur le marché du travail chez Cassidy & Belliveau, Moncton (N.-B.) en 1906. Il est embauché par le ministère des Postes au bureau de Saint-Jean (N.-B.) en 1907. Grâce à sa position aux Postes, il a donné un visage français aux noms des bureaux de postes en Acadie, de dire « L'Évangéline ». Il est un des fondateurs et le premier président de la succursale de la Société L'Assomption à Saint-Jean créé en 1913. Il s'est marié à Richibouctou (N.-B.) en 1914 à Léona Johnson, fille de Basile Johnson, ancien shériff du comté de Kent et de Julie LeBlanc. En 1928, il fut transféré à Moncton pour être responsable des régions acadiennes des Maritimes. Jean Léger est le père du juge Claudius Léger de Moncton (N.-B.). Jean Léger est décédé en mai 1950 et son épouse en 1991.
