Biography

Édouard Léger was a blacksmith, a politician and a funeral director

Édouard was born in 1890. [1]He was the son of Sylvain Léger and Rosalie LeBlanc.

He married Marie Landry, daughter of François Landry and Marguerite Vienneau, on 9 October 1911.[2]

He was elected member of parliament representing Westmorland County at the New Brunswick legislative assembly, in 1939. He was reelected in 1944 and 1948 and kept his seat until 1952. [3]

Édouard and Marie became funeral directors. Marie was the first Acadian woman to receive certification as an embalmer in 1937. (Her profession is written on her tombstone) At one point the abandoned blacksmith shop of Edouard's father was used as a storage shed for caskets, before being dismantled and moved to the Village historique acadien in Caraquet. [4]

He passed away about 1971.
