Lieutenant Colonel John Edward Astley "Ted" Maberly was born on 7th April 1909 at 26 Bath Road, Reading, Berkshire, England. He was a son of Charles James Astley Maberley and Lilian Edith Millican. He was christened on 30th May 1909 in St Peter's Church, Hawkley.
Ted attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was the commanding officer of the 13th B.C.O. Lancers, British Indian Cavalry. He retired to Kenya about 1954.
He married Florence Eve Chauvel, younger daughter of the late General Sir Harry Chauvel, in 1954 in St Alban's Church, Molo, Kenya.[1] The wedding cake was cut with the sword of Ted's great-uncle who led the charge of the Heavy Brigade at the battle of Balaclava.
