In 1738, James MacCain, son of Donald, and his family landed at Perth Amboy, NJ, and settled in Barnard Township Somerset Co., NJ on a 212 acre farm, three miles from Basking Ridge. James died 18 March 1754 aged 59 years. Buried in the graveyard adjoining the Basking Ridge Presbyterian church. His grave has a stone. His wife's name seems to have been Mary although her name is not mentioned in his will. The name is spelled Mac Cain in his will. He had eight sons and three daughters: James, Charles, Jon Bryan, Richard, Hugh, Daniel, William, Catharine, Nelline and a married Daughter, Susannah McConnell. He named them in his will, dated 25 Feb. 1754. His wife, son John and James Macallinroy were named administrators. His will is an interesting document, showing a man's attempt to reach out after his death to manage and advise his family for the following ten years.
