Biography

Mary Margaret MacDonald, daughter of Archibald MacDonald and Christina "Kirsty" MacDonald, was born on March 30, 1890 in North Uist, Scotland.^[1][2] Her father was a crofter and they lived at Croft #7 in Gearraidh Dubh, Griomasaigh (Grimsay), North Uist.^[2]

Mary Margaret married John Smith from Bearnaraigh, Leodhas (Bernera, Lewis).^[2][3]

Mary Margaret died at the Mission House in Gearraidh Dubh, on February 1, 1915 at the age of 24 years.^[2][3][4]

From a Family Events entry in Catherine MacDonald Hutchison's Family Bible, now in the possession of Jane White Nantais: In memory of my dearest and most beloved sister Mary Maggie who died at the Mission House, Gerradhue, Grimsay, North Uist on the 1st Feb 1915, and most beloved wife of Rev. John Smith Missionary Grimsay North Uist Lochmaddy. Dearly loved and sadly missed. - her sorrowing sister Kate Hutchison, Masterton, Dunfermline.^[3]
