John MacDonald, "Iain Mac Alasdair", came from the Isle of Uist, Scotland, to Prince Edward Island and from there to West Lake Ainslie. Where in 1814 he acquired a large tract of land. He had a family of one son and six daughters: John, Mary, Sara, Anne, Catherine, Christie and Mary.
