John G. MacDonald CORINTH- John G. MacDonald, 90, a longtime resident of Corinth, passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 at the Stanton in Queensbury following a long illness. Born on January 26, 1927 in Berlin, NH, he was the son of the late Alexander and Annie (Moody) MacDonald. John graduated from Berlin High School. He joined the Unites States Army Air Corps in 1944, serving during World War Two as a gunner until his discharge in 1946. John married Barbara Roy on Sept. 30, 1950 in Berlin, NH, and the couple resided in Corinth for many years. She died Nov, 1993 following 43 years of marriage. He married Catherine (Hedger) Porter on Nov. 29, 1997 in Corinth, and the couple resided on Howe Road in Corinth for several years. John was employed as a millwright at the International Paper Co. in Corinth for 40 years until his retirement in 1987, and was a member of the IP Quarter Century Club. He also worked as a part-time musician, playing guitar with the Frontiersman and at many area Dude ranches and clubs over the years. John was a longtime communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception of Corinth (Holy Mother and Child) and was a member of the American Federation of Musicians. He enjoyed skiing, flying planes, playing guitar and traveling. Besides his first wife and his parents, John was also predeceased by one son, Kirk J. MacDonald; and one brother, Kenneth MacDonald. Survivors include his wife, Catherine “Kathy” MacDonald of Corinth; one step-daughter, Brenda Beratis (Jim) of Hernanda Beach, Fla.; two step-grandsons, Chris and Alex; and several nieces and nephews. At John’s request, a private graveside service will be held in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Corinth. The family suggests that memorials take the form of donations in John’s name to the Corinth Dollars for Scholars, 105 Oak St., Corinth, NY 12822. Arrangements are under the direction of the Densmore Funeral Home, Inc., 7 Sherman Ave., Corinth.
