Biography

• Thomas is my paternal-maternal great-grandfather, Thomas William MacDonald, Jr. His daughter, Ann Catherine is my paternal grandmother.

• This is the grandfather of my father, James Thomas Donovan, (b: 27 Aug. 1911). We were not closely connected with his relations in my lifetime.

• Thomas was a Steel Mold Maker. During the early 1880's he was sponsored in the USA by a steel company located in Cleveland, Ohio. During 1887, he was transferred to a Steel Company Division that was acquired in Syracuse, Onondaga Co. N.Y. That is where he spent the rest of his life.

• I updated the birth date. when I created this profile, I entered the birth date of Thomas William MacDonald, Jr., as 1835. Actually, that is the birth date of his father, Thomas William MacDonald, Sr. I recently discovered this error in my research, when I found a 1900 Federal Census for Syracuse, N. Y. The information in the census shows the last name as being McDonald, which is an incorrect spelling of the name,

• I struggled really hard to research and resolve my confusion about the father and son with the same name, Thomas William MacDonald.

• Further study has indicated to me that Thomas Wm. MacDonald (b: 1860) came to Syracuse, N.Y., when he was single. He was married on 10 June 1885, at Syracuse, N.Y. I do not know how to update the marriage information on the profile, so I am adding this note.
