Biography

No primary or verifiable secondary sources have been found for the existence of this person. Here he is called Black John which is generally applied to a much earlier man John MacGregor. While this man appears in Hazel Kendall's 1944 Quaker Greggs [1], the work contains no documentation. For this reason, this profile has been placed in the Uncertain Existence category by the Scottish Clans Protocol Team. 29 May 2022.

I plan to remove all the Clan background to the MacGregor Clan page: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Clan_MacGregor

Then we can see what is left.

Sadly, nothing was left. Perhaps he never existed.

Thanks for your work on this, Stephen. I've made note of this to several of the Scotland Project teams.

Great history lesson on Clan MacGregor, but I don't see anything on Black John, his wife and/or children in this bio. Would have liked to know more about the man himself.
Hi, Sharon. Just a note that this lineage (up and downstream) is being scrutinized by several Scotland Project teams as well as Quakers. The connection to the Quaker Gregg family in the American colonies has been severed--nothing can be documented and it appears likely entirely fictional.
