David was born in 1884.
In 1904 he married Catherine Kennedy[1] and they had two children. At the time of his marriage he was a journeyman joiner living in Crieff. The marriage later resulted in divorce.
It is believed that he left his family in 1909 to travel to Canada alone.[2]
It is believe that he left for Canada with their two children, Mary and John Duncan, about 1912-1916. In 1916, on 24th January, he joined the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force, 134th Overseas Highlanders.[3]
In 1916 he was living at 24 Manning Avenue, Toronto Ontario and was a carpenter to trade. He stated that he had previously been a Private with the Black Watch.
He visited Catherine when he was in the UK during the first world war, in an attempt to save their marriage. He was unsuccessful.
In 1916 a decree of divorce was granted between Catherine Kennedy and David MacGregor.[4][5]
On 24 January 1926, in York, Ontario, Canada, he married Winnifred Elsie Ley.
