Biography

John McGregor was born in Perthshire in 1749. Family tradition says he was the son of James Mor McGregor and Grandson of Robert Roy McGregor (Rob Roy). He was a passenger on the Fallmouth in 1770. He married first, Annabelle, who died without children. Then he married Margaret McGregor 25 Mar 1790 by Rev DesBrisay. They then moved to Black river, near Black point. He died there 16 Feb 1832, aged 87 years. [1]

Private John McGregor served in the 42nd Regiment, known as the "Black Watch." John died February 16, 1832, in his mid eighties and is buried in the Brackley Beach Cemetery, in Queens County, Prince Edward Island, Canada. [2] Margaret died in 1844 and is buried with him. There is a photograph of the headstone which they share on their Find A Grave memorials. Their son, John McGregor, Jr. born 1802, died November 19, 1879 and is also buried in the Brackley Beach Cemetery. [3]

Alternative parentage: John McGregor was born in 1745, in Perthshire, the fourth son of Major James Drummond (or McGregor) and his wife, Annabella McNichol. John was a farmer, weaver, and a surveyor, and was appointed Deputy Surveyor-General (in PEI) in 1809. It is thought that he came on the Falmouth............He married Margaret Gregor on Mar 25 1790 at St Paul's in Charlottetown.
