Biography

Jane (MacInnis) Sutherland is a member of Clan Sutherland.

"William Sutherland, who died at Little Mabou, Feb. 20, 1839, age 53 yrs. was born in Scotland in the County of Caithness in the year 1786. He married Jane McInnis, daughter of Robert McInnis, Judique and niece of Bishop Angus B. McEachern of Prince Edward Island. Nine children were born to them Margaret, Donald, Mary, Robert, Jane, Angus, James, Euphemia, Francis." - JL MacDougall

William her husband died 1839, but Jane lived a very long life probably into her 90s . It may have been the MacInnis genes that passed on the longevity because the Sutherland's today in Port Hood area are noted for long life.

In 1871 Robert (42) appears with wife Ellen (31) on the census. With him are his mother Jane (78), and I believe two sisters Margaret (50) unmarried and Mary MacDonald (46) widowed. Also appearing are children Jane (7), Isabell (5), William James (3) and Angus Stephen (1)

Robert Sutherland (52) appears on the 1881 census with wife Ellen (41), Robert's mother Jane (88) and I believe his sisters Margaret (60) and Mary (56). Following are Robert and Ellen's family; Isabella (15), William J (13), Angus S (11), Alexander (9), Mary Ellen (6), Cecily (4) and John F (2).
