Biography

Allan was born about 1855. Allan passed away in 1913 of "old man's pneumonia".

Allan went to work in Massachusetts in the late 1880s where he was a stone cutter/mason. After his marriage he and Christy they returned to Cape Breton and purchased a 150 acre farm in Black Glen, today known as Glenville, from Angus and Sarah MacDonald. The deed is dated January 20, 1891. The land was part of an original 200 acre land grant to Alexander Kennedy who came from the Isle of Canna about 1820.

Around 1904 the existing house was torn down and a new house erected. Much of the lumber for the new house may have been recycled from the old one. Many people who have visited the home have commented on the high ceilings and the wide boards on the kitchen walls. and raised a family.[1]
