Arthur James Macarthur-Onslow was born on 13th October 1898 in Sydney, New South Wales (Australia). He was the only son of James Onslow and Enid Macarthur. [1] He was educated at The Armidale School, Armidale, New South Wales. He then attended Royal Military College (RMC), Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.
Upon graduating from RMC, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the 16th Lancers. He fought in the First World War between 1917 and 1918.
After the war, he returned to Australia and worked as a grazier on the family properties.
He married Constance Herbert in 1930 in Sydney. [2] They had three children:
He served once more in the Second World War, enlisting in the Second Australian Imperial Force on 13th May 1940, aged 41 years, and being posted to 7th Military District Provost Company. He was discharged on 9th May 1943 with the rank of Corporal. [4]
Not enjoying closeness to his father, who disinherited him, he was declared bankrupt. [5]
He passed away on 17th January 1959 in Muswellbrook, New South Wales, [6] survived by his wife and children.
