Biography
Went to Edinburgh art college before WWII served in Black Watch, 6th battalion, was in North Africa, Italy and Greece, also at some point in Palestine. Was present at Monte Casino. his comment when asked what was it like was "A crying shame with all those medieval manuscripts blowing in the wind". married and became an Art teacher after the war latterly at Lasswade High School and Then head of Art at Musselburgh Grammar. Was given nickname by pupils, a reference to an early Italian artist . Although registered under name John always used name Ian in later documents including passport etc
