He was christened 2/7/1937 in Bedale.
He immigrated to Victoria Australia and went to the goldfields.
He then to Arrowfield goldfirlds in New Zealand with his two brothers John and Christopher.
He became a farmer.
In 1870 listed in NZ Electoral Roll living at Hokitika Section 1081 Kanieri District.
From 1877 - 1880 he was farming..
1880 Electoral Roll listed as a brewer in Wellington and owned 10 acres in Johnsonville Carnarvon.
He ran a brewery in Wellington.
He was a 1st Grade cricketer.
His property was called Brooklands and he died at home.
He is buried in Linwood Cemetery and is buried with his brother Christopher Area 15 Row A 6000.
It appears he never married.
OBITUARY.
HENRY MACE. The many friends of Mr Henry Mace will regret'to hear of his death, -which took place on Saturday night. Mr Mace had been in failing health for some considerable time, but only took to his bed a week or two ago. He was for several years a member of the Heathcote Road Board, and he was also a life member of the Metropolitan Trotting Club, in which he always took considerable interest. Mr Mace was born in Beadle, Yorkshire, in 1857, and was educated in his native town. He began life as a carrier, but was attracted to the Australian gold-fields in 1857, and was afterwards on the Ararat, Pleasant Creek and Inglewood diggings. In 1861 he came over to New Zealand, and was at the Gabriel's Gully and Weatherstone diggings, subsequently going to the West Coast. For some years afterwards Mr Mace was engaged in the brewing industry in Wellington, but in 1884 be came to Christchurch, and purchased the mineral water business which he carried on up to the time of his death. For some years he has resided at New Brighton, where he owned a couple of farms, which he used for breeding trotting, horses, and amongst the first-class horses owned by him may be mentioned Almont, Candidate, Mnmbrina, Abdallah, Brooklyn, Director and Pansy B. Mr Mace also owned the New Brighton Racecourse, upon which he spent a considerable sum of money in improvements. He was known as a very genial man and a thorough sportsman, and his presence at various gatherings will be greatly missed. The funeral will leave Mr Mace's late residence at 2.30 p.m. to-morrow, for the Linwood Cemetery.
