William Palliser was born before 10 March 1816 at Whitechapel, Middlesex, England and baptised at St Mary Whitechapel, Stepney, London on 10 March[1][2]. He was the son of William Palliser Machell and Elizabeth Allan.
He married Lydia Evans on 23 October 1841 at All Hallows, Barking By the Tower, City of London[3][4]. He was a brewer and porter merchant. They had at least three children.
In 1851 he was living with his wife Lydia (32 )and three children - John (9), Lydia (7) and Emma (5) - at Dagenham, Sussex[6]. He was a farmer aged 35 working about 5 acres of land on his own.
His wife died in 1852[7]. William married a widow, Agnes Georgina Worley (born Kitcher), on 16 January 1854 at Saint Dunstan and All Saints, Stepney, London[8]. The banns were called for the third time at the parish church on 15 January 1854[9] at which time William was aged 39 and living at 3 Kings Arm Place and Agnes was 24 and living at 9 Portland Street. They had at least three children.
In 1861 he was living with his wife Agnes (31), her three children by her first marriage - Agnes (13), Thomas Henry (10) and William Fred (8)[13], and a lodger at 12 Beckford Place, Hartford Road, West Hackney, Middlesex[14]. In 1871 he was living with his wife Agnes (41), two children - Charlotte S (9) and Louisa A (4) - and his wife's son William F (18) at Stoke Newington St Mary, Hackney, London[15][16]. He was now a master butcher aged 54, born at Whitechapel, Middlesex.
William died a day or so before 14 February 1876, and his death was registered in the first quarter at Edmonton[17][18]. He was buried on 14 February[19] in Brompton Cemetery, West Brompton[20].
Research Notes
I have not been able to find William in the 1841 Census, just before he married Lydia. Nor have I found birth registrations on GRO for John or Lydia.
