Research Note:
The following will recorded in Middlesex County makes reference to land in Gloucester County bequeathed to a son Thomas Machen. It rather makes sense this was the father of Thomas Machen (because the Essex Co. will was recorded in Middlesex Co.) who's own Middlesex Co. will references land in Gloucester Co.
"Henry Mechan of Essex Co. dated 18 Sep 1719 proved 17 Mar 1719. Land in Gloucester Co divided between my son Thomas Machen and daughter Dorothy Mechan when she comes of age. Exor: Wife Mary Machen. Wit: Thomas Machen, William Tignor [in-law to above Jacob Stiff], and John Machen." (Middlesex Co. Will Book B, p.131)[1]
"Thomas Machen's will dated 28 Aug 1730, proved 1 Dec 1730. Son John Machen land in Gloucester County where he now lives. Wife Mary Machen and daughter Ann Fearn. Daughter Judith Machen (underage). Son Thomas Machen (underage). Son Henry Machen (underage). Exors: Son John Machen, Thomas Edwards and son-in-law John Fearn. Wit: Jacob Stiff, Paul Phillpotts and John Johnston." (Middlesex Wills Book B, p.371)
