Emily Machin and George Frederic Austin, Provincial Surveyor, both of the City of St Hyacinthe, were married at the Anglican Church, St Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada on April 20, 1858.^[1]

The Census of Canada, 1871 shows that Emily Austin, her husband George and their children, William Edward and Alfred were living at Wellington Ward, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. This census records that Emily was born in England. Her age is recorded as 38 years and her calculated date of birth is 1832/1833. Her religion was Church of England and her origin English.^[2]
