Edward James Mack was born August 17, 1856 in Landport, Hampshire to Alexander and Phebe Mack. He was baptized at Saint Mary's in Portsea on April 30, 1865.[1]
In 1861 E J Mack was one of 5 children in the home of Alexr and Phoebe Mack. The family was living in Portsea where his father, Alexander, was a rigger.[2]
In 1871, 14-year-old Edward and his older sister, Elizabeth (19), were living on Craswell Street in Portsea with their mother, Phoebe who was employed as a laundress. Elizabeth was employed as a dressmaker and Edward was working as an errand boy.[3]
Edward James Mack married Kathleen Elizabeth Haseltine on July 7, 1881.[4] Their marriage was registered in the 3rd quarter of that year at Portsea Island.[5]
In 1891 Edward and Kate were living at Rochester in Kent with three children: Charles E (8); Kathleen H (7) and Lena N (4). Edward was a carrier manager.[6] In October of the same year he was initiated into the Landport Lodge of the Free Masons.[7]
Edward James Mack of St Peters-grove, Southsea, Hants died on December 24, 1899. Probate was granted in January to Gilbert Fulljames, pawnbroker. [8]
