Biography

Margaret is born on the 2 December 1803 in the Village of Ratho, on the Union Canal, west of the City of Edinburgh, in the Parish of Ratho, Midlothian, Scotland. She is the daughter of Labourer, Robert (McLaren) and Agnes (Black), who married around 1802, possibly at the Parish Church, in the Village of Ratho, south of Union Canal, in the Parish of Ratho, Midlothian, Scotland (taken from Margaret's birthplace and date).

Residence

We find James, in the Census Record of 1841, married to Margaret (McLaren) and living with children Robert, Eliza, Marion and Jessie "Janet" (Davidson) in the Hamlet of Gogarstone, northwest of the Village of Ratho, on the Union Canal, Parish of Ratho, Midlothian, Scotland[1]. In 1851, the family is living at Ratho House, in the Village of Ratho, Parish of Ratho, Midlothian, Scotland. James and Margaret reside with children Robert, Marion, James, Jessie "Janet", Fanny "Frances" and John (Davidson)[2].

In 1861, James and Margaret, along with children Robert, James, Jessie "Janet", Fanny "Frances" and John (Davidson) and granddaughter, Margaret (Beaten), live in a Private House, in the Village of Ratho, Parish of Ratho, Midlothian, Scotland[3]. The couple are still there with the Census of 1871, living with children Robert and John (Davidson) and grandson, John (Davidson)[4]. Only son, Robert (Davidson) and grandchildren John and Marion (Davidson) remain living with James and Margaret in the Census of 1881 at Ratho, Midlothian, Scotland[5].

Death

Margaret (McLaren) passes away on the 14 February 1886, at 4.00 am, in the Village of Ratho, on the Union Canal, west of the City of Edinburgh, in the Parish of Ratho, Midlothian, Scotland. She was 77 years old at the time and dies from the result of having Bronchitis, over 4 years and Congesion of the Lungs, around 1 month. Her son, James (Davidson) is present at the death and informant[6].
