Elijah married Mehitable Johnson on 14 July 1766 in Middleborough, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America by Joseph Tinkham, Justice of the the Peace. His intention to marry was filed 29 May 1766.[2][3][4][5]
Elijah was enumerated in 1820 in Freetown. The household consisted of three people: one free white male age 45 or above, one free white female aged 16-25, and one free white female age 45 or above.[6]
On 29 April 1784 three deeds were recorded for land purchased by Elijah in Middleborough:
William Macomber and his wife Abiah sold to his son Elijah 31 acres which comprised the whole of his homestead on the north side of the Taunton path which included the dwelling house. The land was in the Sixteen Shilling Purchase. Deed signed 29 May 1779.[7]
James Hearsay as guardian of the heirs of Andrew Tomson sold at auction a tenth part of the 92nd lot in the third allotment drawn in the 4th allotment. Deed was signed 15 Nov 1781.[8]
William Canedy and his wife Charity sold 25 acres in Sixteen Shilling Purchase. Deed signed 5 April 1784.[9]
Elijah sold the land he received from his father to Solomon Dunham "it being the homestead lands of my honoured father William Macumber whereon he last dwelt." Signed 3 June 1797 and recorded 9 June 1797.
Additional land sales in Middleborough include:
Two parcels sold to James Pickens by Elijah Macomber and his wife Mehitable signed 17 Feb 1817 and recorded 16 May 1826.[10]
Twenty seven acres sold to Samuel Wild by Elijah Macomber and his wife Mehitable signed 13 March 1807 and recorded 13 October 1807.[11] This was the land he had purchased from Abraham Shaw signed 4 May 1796 and recorded 27 March 1802.[12]
Elijah died, probably in Freetown, between 23 May 1823 when his will was written and 17 October 1823 when the will was proved. The will names his wife Mehitable; daughters Thankful Lebarron, Sally Hammond, Rosina Booth (eldest daughter), and Mehitable Ashley, granddaughter Hannah Fuller now wife of Silvester Cummings; and sons Elijah, Samuel, Joshua, Levi and Asa.[13]
