Biography

Robert Henry Madden was born about 1830 to my 3x great grandparents, Patrick and Esther Madden, in Dickson County, Tennessee. This information was listed on his FindaGrave memorial, #3292640, so requires verification, but 3 sources are cited. 1) the Tennessee census which also includes his 3 children- J.H.; James Albert; and Esther Viny Jane, born in 1857, 1861 and 1863 respectively. His wife, Eliza Jane "Nicey" Green, whom he married 24 July 1855, is also listed. 2) Robert was reported as a deserter from the Confederate army, December 8, 1863. 3) His name appeared on a list of "Rebel Deserters" who had "taken the oath" on November 28, 1863. 4) He died in a Louisville, Kentucky, hospital December 21, 1863 and is buried there in Cave Hill Cemetery. So, taking the information provided as a whole, I think this is probably solid evidence. The information also said that JH was listed in only the one census; that James Albert was born in January 1861 and died 4 March 1918, single, buried in Dyer County, Tennessee; Esther Viny Jane was born May 1863, married John W. Robinson and had 5 children.
