Notes
his mother's surname "Syam,"[1] might be abbrev. for Simpson?
given names 'Lionel' & 'Timothy' are seen in the Gardiner family ... clue to poss. links between Gardiner of Berwick upon Tweed & other branches, as well as New England family? ... Supposedly, there was a Devereux Gardiner of Newcastle, poss. a contemp. of George Gardiner, DD., & his bros. German, rector of Eglingham. Devereaux apparently had children (see familysearch baptismal records). ... But the name 'Lionell' is also seen in the Medieval branch of the Grays of Horton, Northumb. .. Lionell Gray (dsp), was the bros. of Roger Gray of Horton. They were the sons of Thos. of Horton & [...] Fenwick of Wallington.[1] ... Another interesting thing is the similiarity between the arms of Gardiner of Berwick and the Forsters of Adderstone.
