Biography

James Henry (Jim) Maddox was born on September 15, 1840, in Hancock, Georgia, and moved to Coffee County, Alabama when he was eight years old. James was 5' 11 tall with grey eyes when he joined to fight for the Confederate Army. There he married Susana Jane Amerson on May 10, 1858, and they had four children together. In July 1869, Susana and their fourth child, William, died during childbirth. James Henry then married Lucy Jane Giles in January 1870 and they had nine children together. After the birth of their daughter, June Etta, they moved to Simpson County, Mississippi in 1873, where the rest of their children were born. He died on May 11, 1929, in Magee, Mississippi, at the age of 88, leaving 217 living descendants.
