Biography

Sophronia Delphina Maddox was born on 15 May 1838 in Pendleton County, Kentucky, USA.

Sophrana Maddox married Larkin G Humble on 19 Dec 1854 in Bracken County, Kentucky.^[1]

Sophronia and Larkin had nine children.

In 1860 Saphronia Humble (age 22) lived in Harrison County, Kentucky with her father-in-law Squire (72, Farmer), husband Larkin (25, Farm Hand), and three children: Wood (5), Irene (2), and H J (10 months).^[2]

In 1870 Sephrona Humble (age 32, Keeping House) lived in Tuscola Township, Douglas County, Illinois with her husband Larkin (38, Farmer) and seven children: A S (14, Work on Farm), Hankalina (11), Lucinda (9), Adalade (7), E F (4), N C (2), and Sylvia (2 months), as well as employee Thomas Draper (21, Work on Farm).^[3]

Sophronia's husband passed away in 1879.

In 1880 Sophrona Humble (age 43, Keeping House) lived in Camargo Township, Douglas County with eight of her children: Augustus (24, Farmer), Lucinda (18), Addelaide (16), Robert (14, Works on Farm), Nancy C (12), Sylvie (10), Amanda (6), and Charley (3), as well as employee William Degroat (22, Farm Laborer).^[4]

Sophronia and her children moved to Decatur, Macon County, Illinois in 1882.

In 1910 Sophonia Humble (age 72, Own Income) lived at 550 West North in Decatur City Ward 2 with two of her daughters: Lucinda (45, Seamstress) and Adley (43, Seamstress).^[5] According to this census, Sophronia was the mother of 9 children, all still living.

Sophronia Humble passed away on 11 Nov 1912 in Decatur - an obituary was published in the Dacatur Daily Review.^[6] She is buried at Tuscola Township Cemetery in Tuscola, Douglas County with her husband.^[7]
