Biography

Humphrey, son of Thomas Madison and Joanah Unknown, was born on 25 Apr 1730 at Caroline County, VA.[1] He was killed by Indians on 11 Sep 1756 at Fort Jackson, VA.[1][2][3] A record dated 9 Dec 1779 at Botetourt County, VA, certified that Humphrey Madison died serving as an ensign in Capt. Dickerson's Company of Rangers on the Virginia frontier about 1756 and his heiress was Katherine Arbuckle, wife of William.[4]

Humphrey married Mary DICKINSON say 1750; child (surname MADISON):[2][4]

On 15 May 1770 at Augusta County, VA, Catherine Madison, age 16, orphan of Humphrey Madison, chose John Madison her guardian and was married the same day.[5]

On 14 Nov 1752, Humphrey was appointed under sheriff of Augusta County, VA.[4] On 15 May 1770 at Augusta County, VA, Humphrey's daughter Catherine Madison, orphan, chose John Madison her guardian and was married the same day.[4] A record dated 9 Dec 1779 at Botetourt County, VA, certified Humphrey Madison's claim that he was an ensign in Capt. Dickerson's Company of Rangers on the Virginia frontier in 1756 where he died. His heiress was Katherine Arbuckle, wife of William.[4]

Madison-232 and Madison-201 appear to represent the same person because: the dates, parents, and siblings all match. There is no evidence of a son Humphrey for John and Agatha (Strother) Madison. Please merge. The bios are very similar, but the one for Madison-201 is better.
