Biography

When Catherine "Kitty" Madison was born in June 1754, in Alleghany, Alleghany, Virginia, United States, her father, Humphry Madison, was 24 and her mother, Mary Dickinson, was 29. She married Capt Robert McClenahan Jr on 15 May 1770. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 1 daughter. She died on 18 July 1818, in Buffalo, Madison, Virginia, United States, at the age of 64, and was buried in Craig-Douglas Cemetery, Grimms Landing, Mason, West Virginia, United States. [Catherine Madison Arbuckle was born in Virginia in 1754 - she was the wife of 1st husband Capt Robert McClanahan who she married 15 May 1770,and 2nd Husband William Arbuckle.

"(5) iv Capt. William Arbuckle; b Mar. 1752; d 21, Mar. 1836 ; m 1777. Mrs. Catharine Madison Poague, b 1754 ; d 18, July 1798. Mrs. Poague was the daughter of Humphry Madison (of Botetourt Co.. Va.), and Mary Dickerson, the latter being a dau. of John Dickerson, one of the signers of the Constitution of the United States. Catharine Madison was a niece of Bishop Madison of Va., and a cousin of Gov. Geo. Madison of Ky.. and President James Madison. She m (1st) Capt. (Wm?) McClanahan, an officer in Gen Lewis's Army, was killed at battle of Point Pleasant, Oct. 10, 1774, leaving Mrs. McClanahan a widow with two children, a son, "John," who settled at Ste. Genevive, Mo., and a dau Margaret m Benj. Jones, who being of a pioneer disposition, acted a guide to Lewis and Clark (1803-5) in the great exploration of the Jefferson Purchase of Louisiana, of St. Louis; m (2nd) 1776, Wm. Poague, who lived ten months, leaving Catharine a widow, a second time, with a posthumous child (Wm. Poague, Jr. gr-father of Geo. Poague who m Sarah McCue Wil- son : see No. 126, McCue Chart)"
