Biography
John is the son of Hans Christian and Maria Madsen (Petersen by her previous marriage, maiden name unknown). At the time of his mother's death in 1916, he was thought to be serving with NZEF in WWI[1], a possible match is service number 11/2340, John Matsen from Fielding with birthdate given of 14 Nov 1890. Next of kin was stated as a cousin, Mrs Emma Hight, wife of Herbert Hight, living in Kohuratahi, and his previous employer is listed as a farmer in Kohuratahi also. A John Madsen with the birthdate of 14 Nov 1890 died in Stratford on 5 Jan 1954.
