Edward was born in 1866 in Georgia, according to his grave, but 1864 according to census records. His parents were Joseph Alva Magruder and Laura Estelle Hunter. In 1880, he was living with his widowed mother, Laura, brother, George, and brother-in-law, George Brown, in Orange County, Florida.[1].
Edward was a steamboat captain, according to his son Edward, Jr's obituary.
His first wife was Helen "Hallie" Maud Johnson. In 1900, the family was living in Lower Town, Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia.[2] The couple was mentioned in the death record of their son, Fred, in 1901 in Wisconsin.[3] Hallie also passed away in 1901, and was buried in Wisconsin.
He later married a woman named Minnie T. In 1930, he and his wife, Minnie, were living in Bainbridge, Decatur County, Georgia.[4] They were still in Bainbridge in 1940.[5] There were two lodgers living with them.
He passed away in 1952.[6] He lies beside his second wife, Minnie. The end of their graves are inscribed with the word "Mizpah", Mizpah has come to connote an emotional bond between people who are separated (either physically or by death)."[7]
