Abt. 1782 Migration to Georgia
Shortly after Althea Magruder married Walter, the newlyweds joined Walter's brother William on a trip from Maryland to Georgia. Ten years later William would marry Althea's sister Cassandra. Althea and Cassandra's parents Ninian and Rebecca Magruder were also Marylanders who likely joined the Drane brothers on that trip along the Savannah River between South Carolina and Georgia to settle on that river in Columbia Co., Georgia. Walter raised his family there while William moved closer to the Magruders in the adjacent county of McDuffie. All the Drane children were born in Georgia.[1]
Walter and Althea had seven children but only one son:[1]
