John came to Western Australia with the 51st Regiment on the Runnymede, arriving on 25 June 1840. He was a bugler who was stationed at Perth in 1840.
He married Mary Ann Williams in Perth in 1845. The marriage certificate has his age as 21. They had one child in Western Australia.
They all departed for India with the Regiment in 1847 where they had four more children. The regiment returned to England in 1854 but went back to India in 1857 and was there until 1863.
By 1862 they were in Canada wher they had a daughter. Had he changed Regiments?
By 1863 they were in Scotland where they had their last child. They were living in Barracks so presumably he was still in the army.
