Original spelling of our family name in Scotland and the spelling used for the Giffen One Name Study. Giffen in all its variations is a locative surname or one derived from the names of places where the people lived.
My Mom's family which we have back to ca. 1720 Southend Parish, Argyllshire, Scotland.
My great-grandfather, Michael Gulash, was born 06 Jan 1866 in Klemberk, Austria-Hungary. He emigrated in 1901 and settled in Lehigh, Coal Co, OK.
My grandmother, Linnie Dale Hepburn (1889-1969) was the great-granddaughter of James Hepburn. He was born about 1782 in Virginia. He married Elizabeth Haynes (Haines) c. 1799 and they were settled in Monroe Co, OH before 1805.
Christopher Hinkle, born 1777 in PA and died 01 Apr 1861 in Belmont Co, OH is a 3rd great-grandfather and longtime "brickwall".
Isaac Griffith was born in Maryland about 1792. As a young man he moved to Belmont Co, OH where he married my 3rd great-grandmother in 1815. Isaac is buried in Van Buren Co, IA
My 4th great-grandfather,Jacob Long, was born about 1772 in Armstrong Co, PA. Jacob drove a salt wagon in PA before he and his sister Sarah came to Belmont Co, OH on horseback about 1801. Settling in Mead Twp they soon met and married Lashley siblings with each couple raising large families.
4th great-grandfather Andrew Keyser was born 16 Oct 1759 and died 21 May 1835. We are seeking DNA proof of his connecting to either Dirck Keyser of early Germantown, PA or a Hessian soldier.
My 5th great-grandfather Joseph Lashley and his brother George came to America as British foot soldiers to serve under Gen. Braddock in the French and Indian War. Joseph's first wife Sara bore him at least 10 children and the family settled in Belmont Co, OH circa 1800.
My Magyar's emigrated from Piskárkos, Szatmar, Austria-Hungary which is today Piscari, Romania.
My 4th great-grandfather John Milligan was born in County Down, Ireland in 1751. He served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War and he died 05 Feb 1838 in Ohio Co, West Virginia.

My paternal great-grandfather Andrew Rusnak married Anna Lesko. They were ethnically Carpatho-Rusyns and emigrated from what today is Slovakia.
About 1638, three Giffen brothers fled religious persecution in Ayreshire. One to Ireland, another to America and the third settled in Argyleshire under the protection of the Marquis.
A 3rd great grandfather and War of 1812 veteran.
I have dozens of ancestors who served in the Civil War including both of my mother's grandfathers.
