Notes

Note N66Little is known about John Mahaffey. He immigrated with his family in 1852 to St. Louis. No information has been found about his parents or his roots in Ireland. John had little time to make a mark in St. Louis, dying at age 60 after only six years at his new home in America.
Listed as laborer.
Note N67Burial certificate says removed from Weslyan Cemetery. It is signed by John McCullough, undertaker. According to Bellefontaine Cemetery, John Mahaffey was first buried Weslyan Cemetery, and then his remains were moved to the McCullough Lot at Bellefontaine, March 28, 1867. On October 30, 1906, his remains were moved again by his daughter-in-law, Sarah Jane Morrison Mahaffey, to the Mahaffey lot which she had acquired. Her husband Robert Mahaffey was also relocated from the McCullough Lot to the new Mahaffey Lot on the same date.
