Death: Feb. 10, 1938 Meadville Crawford County Pennsylvania, USA Walter R. Mahany, 63, well known resident of Meadville, died in Spencer hospital, at 2:30 o'clock, yesterday afternoon, following serious illness of three months. Mr. Mahany enjoyed a large acquaintance throughout Crawford county, having served as mercantile appraiser in 1936. In the campaign of 1935, he was Republican candidate for clerk of courts and made an extensive canvass through the county which gained him many friends. A native of New England, Mr. Mahany as a young man went to New York, where he spent ten years as a clerk in the postoffice. He went to Saegertown in 1910, and for fifteen years was manager of Riverview Farm, one of the larger agricultural estates n that section. In 1925, Mr. Mahany went to Meadille where he was employed in the shops of the Erie railroad. He was active in the affairs of the Republican party and served as city committeeman for a number of years. He was a member of the Grange, the F. O. Eagles and the I. O. O. F. and was also a member of Christ Episcopal church. Mr. Mahany is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annette Mahany, and one son, Attorney Rowland B. Mahany of Titusville; his aged mother, Mrs. John Mahany, three sisters, Mrs. Thomas Fitzgerald, Mrs. Lee French, Mrs. Lucy Meyers and one brother, Alfred Mahany, all of Cleveland. Funeral services will be conducted from the family home, 1078 South Water street, in Meadville, Saturday, at 2 p.m., with interment in Greendale Cemetery.
