Martin Maher was born in Ireland.

Martin C Maher was born c. 1837 in Ireland and settled in Western NY before 1860.

Judging from birth years of his wives and children and census records, it appears he had three wives:

• Wife 1 (possibly named Bridget), mother of Charles H. Maher, who was born 1859 in Portland, Chautauqua, NY.
• Wife 2 - Ellen (b. 1846 in Ireland), mother of Mary Maher (b. 1870).^[1]
• Wife 3 - Bridget A. Kelley (b. 1858 in Corning NY). They lived in Elmira and then in Corning and had eight children.

He worked for the Erie Railroad as a brakeman. He died walking home on December 20, 1894, in Corning and is buried in St. Mary's Orthodox Cemetery in South Corning, New York.
