Biography

Nathaniel Main was born July 12, 1754, the third child of Timothy Main (1727-1790) and Elizabeth (Brown) Main (1732-aft.1774).

Lineage Dispute

Note: Considerable confusion exists regarding the identity of this person as contrasted with Nathaniel "Nathan" Main (abt.1756-1855). The Brown Genealogy (1915) published the Nathaniel Main who married Abigail Thurston as having been born July 12, 1754, to parents Timothy and Elizabeth (Brown) Main, as currently profiled. A footnote in this publication corrects the previously published error in Genealogical Record...Simeon Main (1909) which stated that the Nathaniel Main who became husband of Abigail Thurston was a son of Jeremiah and Thankful (Brown) Main.

Added by Millerd-11: Though born in the same town, upon review of the original record, only one had a listed birthdate, this individual. have reviewed the original records. the individual named Nathaniel Main, born July 12, 1754, in Stonington is the son of Timothy Main and Elizabeth Brown. The other, the individual named Nathan is the son of Jeremiah and (probably) Thankful Brown, as the birth record for him does not state a mother. There is no date listed for his birth, however it is located in between the births of siblings in 1752 and 1760

Marriage and Children

Nathaniel Main married 7 Aug 1780 Abigail Thurston; 10 children resulted from this union.

He may have married, second, Abby Brown, however this is uncertain in view of the above described confusion.
