Horatio, son of Rowland & Laura, was baptised on 6 December 1848 in Whitmore, St Mary & All Saints, Staffordshire, England.^[1] Horatio Mainwaring's birth was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1848 in the Newcastle under Lyme district.^[2]

In the 1851 census Horatio (age 2) was the son of Rowland Mainwaring in Whitmore, Staffordshire, England.^[3]

In the 1861 census Haratio Mainwaring (age 12) was the pupil of Reed John Congrave at Rugby School in Bilton, Warwickshire, England.^[4]

Horatio entered the Indian Civil Service, Woods’ and Forests’ Department.^[5] He served for 20 years according to the plaque in St Mary and All Saints, Whitmore, erected by his widow.^[6]

Horatio (age 39), child of Rowland Mainwaring, married Gertrude Mary Parker Jervis on 10 July 1888 in Aston with Burston, St Saviour, Staffordshire, England.^[7]

In the 1901 census Horatio Mainwaring (age 51), Retired indian officer, was the married son-in-law of Grace C Locker in The Hall, Kemberton, Shifnal, Shropshire, England.^[10]

In the 1911 census Horatio (age 62), Private Means, was the married head of household in The Russells Cottage, Wiveliscombe, Somerset, England.^[11]
