The reason why it was different is like Paula says. Maitland 245 was attached to the wrong parents. This was pointed out by an expert, who is actually peerage. I will take the time here to say none of these profiles connected are sourced to a standard that could be achieved as there are wonderful records available for free.

Maitland-245 and Maitland-19 are not ready to be merged because: Maitland-245 has been changed to almost match Maitland-19, but the original profile was a totally different person with the same name. Please don'T make anymore changes to these profiles until they can be sorted and firm decisions can be made and sourced about who these profiles represent.

Please do not add parents. When this duplicate is merged, it will be connected to the correct parents.

Maitland-245 and Maitland-19 appear to represent the same person because: These are the same person with the same wife. The duplicate was attached to the grandparents instead of the parents.

This guy is connected to the wrong parents. He also never went to America. It's an easy mistake to make when you are using trees for resources. I will be glad to help. Luckily, the UK documents their peerage and you can also find most of these people in history books or even Wikipedia.

I've restored the names for this profile, as there is no evidence that the James Maitland or Lauderdale who emigrated to America, is the same as James Maitland, Viscount Maitland (see sources below). Until this is sorted, please don't make any changes to the names of this profile.

As I stated below there appears to be no proof this profile is the son of John Maitland and Jean Gordon, he should be detached from them and not have his name changed to Maitland necessarily.
posted by John Atkinson
Let's not do that right now. I don't know if his profile fits in the pre-1700 project and will contact a coordinator before any changes are made to this profile.

According to both The Scots Peerage, volume 5, p. 311, and The Complete Peerage, volume 7, p. 493, James Maitland, the son of John Maitland, 5th Earl of Lauderdale and his wife Margaret Cunningham, died in 1709 having married Jean Gordon, and had one daughter Jean Maitland. He is not the same person who emigrated to the United States as in this profile, and unless there are sources that say otherwise, I propose to detach this profile from his presumed parents.
