William was born in 1798. He was the son of William Major and Mary Applegate. He was married in Brookville, Indiana the year 1820 to Miss Rebecca Clark.
William Major moved his family to Martinsville in Morgan, Indiana in the year 1832. He there bought and enlarged a farm about 3 1/2 miles north of the city. He passed away in 1847.
