He was baptised in Stellenbosch on 7 October 1787 as jacobus Malan son of David and Elizabeth Malan. [1]
His first wife was Maria Margaretha Swart who was baptised on 16 December 1794. She died during 1828. [2]
His second wife was Anna Maria Klopper. They married on 17 March 1830. Anna was baptised on 24 June 1814. She was 24 years old when Jacobus died. They had four children together. She is the daughter of Jacobus Marthinus Klopper and Helen Catharina Krugel. [3]
