Emily Malcolm was born in Colchester in 1861.[1]She was the daughter of George Malcolm and Emily Miller. Emily was baptized on 26 May, 1861 in Blore Ray, Stafford, England[2][3].
At the time of the 1861 census Emily was 3 months old living with her parents Henry Malcolm, 25 and Emily F. Malcolm, 24 in Colchester St Botolph, Essex[4].
Emily married David Foulis Addis on 7 Jan 1879 in Shahjahjahanpur, Bengal, India[5]. They lived in India until at least 1891 as David, b. 1882, George, b. 1885 and Dorothy, b. 1891 were born there. By 1896 they were back in Scotland as Ronald was born in Edinburgh.
In 1901 Emily was 40, living in 34 Hermitage Gardens, Morningside, Edinburgh with her spouse David F. Addis. Their children were David M. Addis, 19; Annie Addis, 16; George T. Addis, 15; Dorothy S. Addis, 10; Ronald F. Addis, 4 and Eric E. Addis, 1[6].
In 1939 Emily was living in Beech Tree Cottage, Cuckfield Sussex. She was widowed. Her daughters Annie and Dorothy and their daughters Doria (Annie) and Margery (Dorothy) were living with her[7].
Emily Addis, of Beech Tree Cottage, Tylers Green, Haywards Heath, Sussex, a widow, died on 21Oct 1941 in Cuckfield, Sussex, age 80. She left Effects of 3329 pounds 17 s. 4d., revised 2889 pounds 14 s. 2d. to Dorothy Scott and George Thorburn Addis, a retired captain in H.M. army[8][9]. The Death Notice reads:" On Oct 21, 1941 at Beech Tree Cottage, Haywards Heath, Sussex, Emily Malcolm, widow od David Foulis, I.C.S. Funeral private, no flowers, no mourning, by her request[10].
